At Movement Is Strength, sports massage is tailored to the individual. Sessions can focus on one problem area or several muscle groups depending on what you need.

FAQs

What is sports massage?

Sports massage is a form of hands-on soft tissue treatment used to work on muscles and surrounding tissues. Treatment may include a range of massage and soft tissue techniques depending on the area being treated and how sensitive or tight it feels.

The aim is to improve comfort, reduce muscular tension and help you move more freely. Despite the name, sports massage is not only for athletes.

Who benefits most?
How often should I get one?
Is it painful during treatment?

There is no single correct frequency. Some people book sports massage regularly as part of their training or recovery routine, while others only book when they feel particularly tight or sore.

How often you come in will depend on your activity levels, symptoms, preferences and goals.

Sports massage can be suitable for anyone dealing with muscular tightness, soreness or stiffness.

That may include people who:

  • Train or play sport regularly

  • Have physically demanding jobs

  • Sit for long periods

  • Experience recurring muscular tension

  • Are returning to exercise

  • Want help with recovery between training sessions

It can sometimes feel uncomfortable when working on tight or sensitive areas, but it should not feel unbearable. Pressure is adjusted throughout the session based on your preference and how the tissue responds. You should always feel comfortable telling us if you want the pressure increased or reduced.

No. Sports massage can be booked for general muscle tightness, soreness, recovery or relaxation from physical activity, even if you are not injured.

If your symptoms suggest that a full injury assessment would be more appropriate, we can advise you on that.

Do I need to be injured to book?

It can sometimes form part of a wider rehabilitation plan, but massage is not a substitute for assessing an injury properly.

If you have a new injury, persistent pain, swelling, weakness or a significant loss of movement, an initial rehabilitation assessment may be a better starting point.
